Each and every day these children had to keep quiet, and move very slowly. Also whether it was rain or shine outside they were not aloud to leave the security of their hiding place. Many of these children would go months without seeing any daylight, so their parents would make them do a few exercises in order to not get stiff.

To keep busy many children would have imaginary friends, they would read a book, or listen to the adults talking.

"Many hidden children led the life of a Christian child, saying Christian prayers, attending church and school, becoming part of a Christian family circle, taking on a Christian sounding first name. Many also hid in the forest, survivng on left over food, and water from rivers."

Many of the children when they were young could always tell that they were different from their “brothers and sisters”, but a lot of them were not told that until they were grown.
